( - features various modifications that streamline the game). A multiplayer '1 versus 1' game, where you have to knock out your opponent as many times as possible within the time limit. Streamlined web client for modern-style Versus, 40 Lines, and Cheese. Fast and furious combo attacking with some old-school flair.
A new falling-block game engine. Feature-filled and highly customizable client.Forums. I recently tried playing 1v1 against a friend on tetrisfriends.com, but the Arena mode is very different from the one you can play on the Battle 2P Mode. The game ends after one KO and it doesn't matter how many lines you sent and the lines you get from your opponent always have a 1 space gap for example. So i wanted to ask is there a way to play the Battle 2P Gamemode with friends? If not on tetrisfriends maybe some other site? And also what is the prefered gamemode among competitive players?. The preferred game modes among competitive players tend to be similar to Arena - one hole per attack line, with varying rules for how attack lines are scored/distributed/countered/etc.Battle 2P's rules were designed to work around the issues of playing Versus against a replay rather than a live opponent. The general consensus is that the flat attack rows 'tug-of-war' design removes a good deal of the interaction between players and the strategic considerations that come with it.
Aside from combos being more valuable in Versus than in the solo scoring modes, the viability of repeatable t-spin patterns due to the flat playfield bottom makes optimal Battle 2P strategies very similar to score attack modes like Ultra. The bomb mechanic in Tetris Battle on Facebook attempts to simulate the aspect of player interaction in live Versus modes while still providing the flat playfield base necessary for player replays to remain synced. However, combos become even more powerful under this system, as you are able to clear through attack lines while still building material to extend the combo just by placing a piece somewhere above the bomb (whereas attack lines with holes require you to expend at least one block of material per piece to maintain the combo, and place more restrictions on how pieces can be placed in order to clear lines). All in all, the bomb mechanics make things even more offense-oriented than it already was with the strength of combos in recent games. But, to topic, I'm not sure what alternatives there are to play a 'tug-of-war' or 'score race' oriented live multiplayer game at the moment.
Tetris Battle is likely your best bet, as suggested. I know the Tetris Friends on Facebook used to let you send Ultra mode score challenges to your friends, but that doesn't really get you the live play aspect or the ability to KO.
